A Beautiful Day

It is really hard to stay indoors when so much is happening outside. In fact this morning I couldn't do it, so instead I went out to listen and see the signs of spring. I still am shaking my head at the warm weather but I'm certainly not complaining. As you can see from the picture below the ponds are still frozen.

The frozen state of the water however, has not stopped the geese from continuing to fly north. This morning there was wave after wave of them honking above us flying to parts unknown but seemingly unfazed by the fact that it is only March and we could have a snow storm at any time. Maybe they know something I don't?

I'm really loving being able to take close ups with my new lens.

Last evening we had a few other visitors which were much more skittish than usual and refused to come very close but thankfully I was able to capture them anyway. They came out of the woods and stared for a long time at the house and outbuildings unsure if they should risk coming out into the open. I took the first picture through the window so it didn't turn out as clear as I would have liked.

Wanting a better picture I very slowly and quietly poked the camera out the door and was able to take a few quick shots but the clicking sound was too much for them and they left. It really is amazing how far sound carries out here. Oh well... I imagine with their increasing size, being most of them are pregnant, they are getting more skittish.

It wasn't 10 minutes later that another group decided to come out and feed in our alfalfa field on the opposite side of the property. This photo of course is much further away and the sun was setting so it was getting rather dark.

They were way on the other side of the ponds and about a 1/4 mile away. Oh, I do hope when all the little ones are born this spring we are able to get some shots of them! Well, have a great day everyone! I am off to do some baking and then spend a lot more time out of doors today. What signs of spring are you seeing in your area?

  1. Morning Glo, I love the pictures you took of the snow melting, deer coming out to feed and the goose flying over head. Last night and into today, bad storms were projected for here. The national weather mentioned all kinds of snow for everyone from Colorado and north. Did ya'll get snow again?
