A Busy Day Ahead

While I sit here downing my cold milk and eating my toast I am trying to figure out how to fit everything I want to accomplish into today. Not an easy task sometimes and Friday's are always busy to begin with. So far the list is much longer than what I can reasonably do in one day but that is the way it is when you are homesteading or farming. The garden of course tops my list of must do's. Where do all those weeds come from?? Seriously!

Other than being very busy life has been mostly without incident lately. It seems the wild critters have decided to keep to themselves and the tame ones are actually behaving for a change. A nice change. One thing I do miss is not having a dog to warn me when someone come in the driveway. Mountain Man is insistent that we don't need one as it will chase the wildlife away. I know he is right but still, a little incident the other day made me second guess him.

I was kneeling in the garden trying to get rid of all the pesky weeds, minding my own business and probably lost in thought as I worked away. Suddenly something (instinct maybe?) made me turn around and there was Mountain Man! You should have seen me start before I realized it was him! Crazy man was sneaking up behind me! He loves to play tricks on me. I hadn't even heard the car in the drive and that got me thinking about missing having a dog. Or even a goose or maybe some guinea's. We don't get a lot of visitors out here but still, it would be nice to have a warning system just to let me know someone is coming down the driveway. Ahh well, its not a big deal but finding a way to get Mountain Man back... That might take some thought!

Have a great weekend everyone! I leave you with a little picture of some of the ducklings on our pond. These were late hatchers but they are growing up fast.

  1. Glo,

You can always train the dog not to go after or chase the wildlife. You also train the dog to roundup the goats for you. Truthfully, I would have a dog and carry some type of protection with me at all times. Especially living out in the country.

    1. Hey Sandy, my dog died last year so I guess I'm not sure I'm ready yet either. I've had a lot of dogs but find many of them more work than they are worth. A good one though is worth a lot! It sure is something to think about.
